Pick our logo!

August 27th, 2007 - Posted by: vanessa

We trust the wisdom (and design sense) of the crowd – so we want your opinion.

Help us choose a logo for MixedInk! Vote for the version you like best in the poll below before the end of the week.

When you vote, keep in mind what MixedInk is: a democratic writing tool that enables groups to express collaborative opinions. It’s sort of like a wiki, only lots of people can contribute at the same time, and the end result is a more democratic reflection of participants’ viewpoints.

Lastly, if you’ve got any more specific improvements to suggest, then put them in the comments. We’ll be reading closely!

I like the one on the left (orange and blue). For some reason, the blue and green one is harsh on the eyes. I think the one in the middle (grey and green) is lacking because I like that the other ones hint at the collaborative nature of mixedink through the design of the “m.” I like the font of “mixedink” for one in the middle (not necessarily more than the other ones…can’t decide which I like better). Too much info…I know!

  2. Becca Schwalb Says:

I also like the one on the left. I don’t want to complicate things, but I like the font for the “Mixed Ink” better though, so my ideal would be the color scheme of the orange and blue (left), with the font underneath from the right. I definitely also agree that I like the collaboration/mixing of the designs on the ends that is not present for the one in the middle.

too late to suggest a different name along w. thoughts on the logo? I like “inklink” which seems more clear. Other than that, I liked the blue and orange. My wife and I disagreed on the round green item on the middle logo–I think it’s a dot over the “i” but she thinks it’s a green bomb. Either of us on target???

  4. Sol Says:

oops–inklinks with an “s”.despite liking blue/orange, you gotta be careful with blue because some cameras do not “see” some shades of blue. If you like Inklinks, you’ll have to redesign the logo to link “I” and “L”. Keep the dot over the I. Layter on, you can get a mascot “Lynx” as a corp symnbol.

  5. Todd Says:

The one on the left (blue/orange) is the best of the three, but the “M” is too bloated. I prefer sleeker text.

  6. simeon Says:

the one on the right has my favorite colors, which means the other two don’t.

  7. joyce Says:

The one in the middle is the easiest on the eyes – the colors on the two end ones are too harsh. But the one in the middle doesn’t work because it doesn’t have the collaboration, and it has that distracting green mystery blob. How about the main design of the left in some other colors, and the font from the right one. BUT MORE BASIC: inklink IS an easier/better name to grasp what it is you’re offering.

  8. joyce Says:

Second comment: In looking at your black logo alone on this page, I like the look of that M much better than the ones that are split, but it doesn’t have collaboration. What if the M isn’t split like in your other two options, but the collaboration is inferred thru color gradation/bleed from one color to another within the solid M? BUT AGAIN… what about inklink?

  9. Dave Says:

It’s almost there! The two edge ones do the best job of representing your concept, but the text doesn’t quite look polished enough to me. The orange and green are hard to read and I prefer the font from the middle one…Perhaps try mixing the text from the middle, with the M from the edges.

  10. nena Says:

i vote the middle one. i like the coulors and also the little push pin above it (it seems appropriate for blogging, but maybe i’m wrong and it’s not a push pin. still i like it.) but i think the ‘m’ in ‘mixed’ should be lowercase.

    that is all. :)

I like the colors of the green and blue one, but I can’t quite decide if its too similar to what a toy company colors/logo would look like. (Does that make any sense? Too cutesy?) But I like the shadow effect and how the lettering pops out at you with the bright green/blue (the orange and blue looks too dirty/dark for me). Thanks for sharing with us though!

  12. Dov Says:

I like the one on the left orange and blue but it is the same colors as the firefox logo

  13. nas Says:

I agree that the blue and green one is a bit overly bright, but I think it’s the best of the bunch. The blue/orange one could work, but that shade of orange is muddy… too brownish. And as someone pointed out, the combo is too similar to the Firefox colors. Good luck dudes!

  14. Jared Says:

I would avoid the use of gradients in your logo, for print that could become very costly.

Also be sure whatever logo you choose works as well at 5 feet tall as it does at 1 inch squared.

Finally check what it looks like in black and white, aka, the photocopy test.

  15. Vaibhavsagar Says:

Am I the only one who thinks the left logo looks too much like the Python logo?

  16. Susan Says:

I like the name of the company but think that the logo could offer more visual interest.I would suggest something like 2 ink bottles containing different colors of ink being spilled onto a surface and spelling mixed ink with a blend of colors–blue and yellow e.g. make green, red and yellow make orange, blue and red make purple.

  17. Tal Says:

Well, since I can tell I have some design sense now (After Garduating!), deffinetly the green and blue should go since they r lively and shout “FRESH”, and young…and most important: they catch the eye immidiately and if I’d bumped in this LOgo I would have get inside to check what is it all about without thinking twice.
Good Luck and choose the geern and blue regardless of teh votes…
