Business and political leaders are working on a public agenda for Central New York. They're looking for views from everyday citizens on how our region can survive and prosper over the next decade and beyond. They want teens' views, too, but they don't know how to collect them. Well, this is your chance to get your views into the plan. Through MixedInk, you and other teens can contribute to a collective statement - an agenda we can deliver to the adults who run things. The final essay we create will be published on the Voices page of The Post-Standard and on the Voices blog, http://blog.syracuse.com/voices.

It's so important to have a place for teens to go and hang out. Right now, there are very few locations that will allow teens to spend time with friends and socialize together. There is a true need for this in our community, because without places to spend time together, teens are more likely to get into trouble. It would be awesome if a teen center or something along the lines of this were to open in a central location (i.e. near Carousel Mall or downtown).
If a teen center were to be open, even for just a few hours each day after school, it would keep teens safe and parents would know where their child was during that time. Teens would be out of trouble and would be having fun. There could also be a place at this teen center for help of any kind. That would really be beneficial to the community becuase if a teen needs help with anything they're usually nottoo comfortable with getting it. If this teen center made teens feel safe then maybe teens would be more likely to get help with their problems.
There could also be more commmunity events that take place. Such as parties or fundraisers for different organizations. The fundraisers could even be for the city or help clean up the lake or something. These events could raise a lot of money and bring the community closer, therefore making it a safer place.
I think that Central New York needs more places for teens to have fun. A teen center would be great, but any place that would be safe is good. The center would keep teenagers from getting into trouble with the law, and allow a safe place for friends to meet and hang out.
